Have you heard about the trend to do business LOCALLY?

I’ve been seeing this pop up a lot in the past year, how ’bout you? I don’t know what you think, but I really like the idea. Shop at local stores, not national chains, and you keep your dollars working right here in your hometown. The profit the local business makes gets spent here, not sent out of state. Supporting local business benefits your local economy, which helps you. It’s a snowballing effect. If you are helping the local business people, they are better able to be a customer of yours as well. Even indirectly it benefits you. At the very least, a dollar of profit earned here is spent on something here, regardless of where, it’s likely to boost some other business here, which may come back to you.

I made the mental switch a while back and avoided chain stores if possible. I trace my change of attitude to the ads on TV run by JOE ROOTS where he talked about this idea. Talk about a lightbulb going off! Now I try to stick to local restaurants, I get most office supplies at SANNER, and so on.

What are your thoughts?
